If the earlier train suggestion was too easy, try this "easy" problem:

Given a collection of books (fields to include title, author, topic, and maybe more), they need to be in different classrooms in different times. Rows are classrooms. Columns are times. Methods to include changing a book in a time period or classroom or both, sorting in a classroom at a specific time by title or by author, determining which books are in use in more than one room at the same time, determining which books are used more than once in the same room, and you can probably add to this. Such a "trivial" assignment could have practical application in an underfunded school that needs to juggle schedules and resources.

Good luck,

Lon.
