Maybe my experience is atypical, but I have had timely responses from the BlueJ team on critical issues and reasonable responses on everything else. I have submitted bug reports in the past and these have been handled appropriately. There are plenty of commercial software houses that are no more responsive than the BlueJ team and a few that I won't mention which could learn to be as good. If you need rapid turn-around, do hire a programmer or contract a firm to do what you need. The current model is ideal for me and my students. Again, my thanks to the BlueJ team.

To conclude this discussion /-: the dev team should start asking
money for BlueJ,
it will enable them to respond faster to requests or bug reports by
hiring people.
I suggest a price of US$10 for individual users, which is cheap
(especially in EU countries).
