looking at stuff as a tutor and can not agree more... for example I had
one student in ASM who was getting really lost with hex math and
conversion... after some deeper probing it turned out he was missing
some very basic manual arthimatic understandings (grew up on calculators
thus never learned to visualize the process):
1. Manual long division
2. The "law" of 9's (i.e. 9+x is 10+(x-1) and that this works in all
bases)
3. Recording intermediate results on paper
